Deep Cleaning Canary Wharf Health and Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Canary Wharf is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. We recognise our duty to manage health and safety risks associated with deep cleaning services and to work in a way that protects people, property and the environment.
This policy sets out our approach to health and safety management and applies to all employees, contractors and subcontractors working on behalf of the company, across all client premises and service areas.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who ensure that appropriate arrangements, resources and competent advice are in place. Supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy on site, monitoring standards and reporting any concerns. All employees have a duty to take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others and to cooperate fully with health and safety procedures and instructions.
We expect everyone representing Deep Cleaning Canary Wharf to follow safe systems of work, use cleaning equipment correctly, wear required personal protective equipment and immediately report hazards, near misses, incidents and injuries to their supervisor.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all deep cleaning tasks, including routine cleaning, specialist treatments, high-level cleaning and work in occupied premises. These risk assessments identify hazards, evaluate the level of risk and specify the control measures required to eliminate or reduce risks to an acceptable level.
From these assessments, we develop written safe systems of work and method statements. Staff are briefed on these procedures before commencing work and are required to follow them at all times. Risk assessments are reviewed regularly, and also whenever there are changes in processes, materials, equipment, legislation or site conditions.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
We carefully manage the use of cleaning products and substances to protect the health of staff, clients and building users. All chemicals are subject to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health assessments and are stored, handled and used strictly in accordance with manufacturer instructions and regulatory requirements.
Staff receive training in safe dilution, correct application methods, contact times, labelling and safe disposal procedures. Safety data sheets are available for all substances and are accessible at each work location. Where possible, we select less hazardous products that still deliver high-quality cleaning results, reducing health risks and environmental impact.
Personal Protective Equipment
Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided free of charge to all employees and contractors where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. This may include gloves, masks or respirators, eye protection, protective footwear and coveralls, depending on the task and risk assessment.
Staff are trained in the correct selection, fitting, use and maintenance of PPE. All personnel are required to wear the specified PPE for each task. Damaged or defective PPE must be reported immediately and replaced before work continues.
Equipment Safety and Maintenance
We use professional cleaning machinery, tools and equipment that are suitable for deep cleaning activities and the environments in which we operate. All equipment is inspected regularly, maintained in good working order and removed from service if found to be unsafe.
Employees are trained in safe operation, manual handling techniques, cable management and the correct use of attachments and accessories. Only authorised and trained individuals may operate specialist equipment, such as high-level access systems or powered machinery. All defects or malfunctions must be reported immediately.
Training, Supervision and Competence
Deep Cleaning Canary Wharf provides ongoing health and safety training to ensure that all employees are competent to perform their roles safely. Training covers general health and safety awareness, safe use of chemicals and equipment, manual handling, slip and trip prevention, working in clients premises and emergency procedures.
New starters receive an induction before beginning work on any site. Additional task-specific training and supervision are provided where higher-risk activities are undertaken. We keep records of training and periodically refresh and update training to reflect changes in best practice, equipment or legislation.
Working on Client Premises
Our teams frequently operate in client buildings, including offices, commercial spaces and residential properties. We respect and comply with each client site policy, security arrangements, access controls and emergency procedures.
Before work starts, we review any site-specific risks, such as restricted areas, vulnerable occupants, shared access routes or sensitive equipment. We plan our deep cleaning work to minimise disruption, reduce noise and control exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment. Where necessary, we schedule tasks outside peak occupancy times.
Housekeeping, Slips, Trips and Falls
Effective housekeeping is an essential part of our safety approach. Work areas are kept tidy, with trailing cables minimised or protected and equipment stored safely when not in use. Wet floors and other temporary hazards are clearly identified using suitable warning signs and barriers.
We select cleaning techniques and products that reduce slip risks, manage drying times and avoid unnecessary water use. Staff are trained to identify and report damaged flooring, loose carpets, poor lighting or other potential trip hazards encountered while working.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses, property damage and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly through our incident reporting system. We investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
We ensure that employees are familiar with emergency arrangements, including fire evacuation, first aid provision and spill response procedures at each site. Where our activities involve specific risks, such as confined spaces or high-level access, we agree suitable emergency plans with the client in advance.
Health and Safety Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed at least annually, and sooner if significant changes occur in our operations, applicable legislation or industry guidance. Updates are communicated to all staff and incorporated into our working practices and training programmes.
By following this policy and working collaboratively with clients, contractors and employees, Deep Cleaning Canary Wharf aims to deliver high-quality deep cleaning services while maintaining the highest practical standards of health, safety and wellbeing.
